ICYMI: Sen. Schiff Tours Kheir Clinic, Highlights Donald Trump’s Refusal to Lower Health Care Costs, Ongoing Efforts to Block SNAP Benefits

Los Angeles, CA – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) toured Kheir Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Koreatown that helps provide health care, affordable housing, and other outreach and services to Bengali, English, Korean, Latino and Thai communities in Los Angeles.

During his visit, the Senator handed out food to families, met with clinic staff, and spoke about the impact of Donald Trump’s ongoing refusal to prevent massive increases in health care premiums set to take effect next year, as well as the President’s continued efforts in court to make it harder for people to obtain food benefits through CalFresh.

“I had the opportunity today to participate in providing food and supplies to members of the community who very much need that assistance. And not surprisingly, the line just kept coming, folks showed up quite early and just kept coming. The need is that great. And this is really the story of what Kheir Clinic does and has done now for decades, and that is, meet the needs of the community where they are,” Senator Schiff said during his visit.

“I am deeply disappointed that we were not able to preserve those Affordable Care Act tax credits in the most recent funding discussions. I hope that we can restore them, because what it’s going to mean is millions of people across the country, and many of which are going to be in California, are simply not going to be able to afford their coverage,” Senator Schiff continued.

Senator Schiff heard directly from Kheir staff about how the health care crisis is impacting Angelinos that rely on their services. The Senator emphasized how he will continue using all the tools at his disposal to protect funding for community clinics and to restore funding for health care in upcoming appropriations bills.
