ICYMI: Sen. Schiff Tours the Eaton Fire Collaborative Center in Altadena, Emphasizes Importance of Recovery Efforts

Altadena, CA — Last week, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Representative Judy Chu (D-Calif.-28) toured the Eaton Fire Collaborative Center, a survivor-led network that brings together local groups to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire.

During the visit, Schiff discussed the support the community has provided in the aftermath of the fire and the ongoing challenges fire victims continue to face. Additionally, Schiff and Chu highlighted legislation they are working on to aid those affected by fires and other natural disasters and underscored the work they are doing in Congress to ensure their neighborhoods get the federal aid they need to finish the job.

“I want to express my profound thanks to Judy Chu, who’s doing such a great job advocating for all the residents of this community. But also, all the people standing here that are part of the Collaboratory and have been working so hard to make sure people can plan for the future, they can rebuild, and they can do so in the most cost-effective way possible,” Senator Schiff said during his visit.

“We continue to push for disaster funding and really encourage this to be a bipartisan process. It has always been bipartisan. Throughout my tenure in Congress, whenever disaster struck, whether it was Hurricane Sandy, or hurricanes in Florida, or the devastating storms of Katrina, I never asked whether this was a red state or blue state, and we need to continue that tradition,” Senator Schiff continued.

Background:

Senator Schiff has led legislation aimed at supporting those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires and natural disasters across the country. In April 2025, the Senator was joined by Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.) in introducing the bipartisan Facilitating Increased Resilience, Environmental Weatherization and Lowered Liability (FIREWALL) Act to promote community resilience to natural disasters through a new federal tax credit. Additionally, the Senator introduced theIncorporating National Support for Unprecedented Risks and Emergency (INSURE) Act in June 2025 to stabilize the home insurance market through the creation of a federal catastrophic reinsurance program, keeping insurance premiums affordable for those in disaster-prone states.

Additionally, today Senator Schiff introduced the bipartisan Healthy Lungs for Heroes Act, legislation to create the first-ever respiratory protection standards for wildland firefighters.
