Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the statement below following the murder of two staff from the Embassy of Israel to the United States in Washington last night:
”The killing of a young Jewish couple on the streets of Washington last night is nothing short of heartbreaking, and my thoughts are with their families and friends in this time of immense sorrow.
“The murder of Yaron and Sarah, reportedly mere weeks before an imminent engagement in the Holy Land, should be a simple and terrible wakeup call for anyone who believes that the rise of antisemitism in America and around the world is not worthy of our concern.
”This targeted act of violence, claiming the lives of two young diplomats, should crystallize for all what happens when hate is minimized, normalized, or left unchecked. For many months, we have seen an assault on Jews and the Jewish community grow louder and bolder. What began with a terrorist attack against Israel and its people has metastasized into harassment, everyday violence, and this unspeakable tragedy. To deny the impacts of this disturbing trend only compounds the horror that Jews around the world have felt since October 7.
“May Sarah and Yaron’s memories be a blessing to every member of their family, their friends, and their colleagues both in the Israeli embassy and throughout the Jewish community.”
